We invite your class to participate in the “Mayor for a Day” essay contest sponsored by the City of San Luis and San Luis High School to celebrate Cities and Towns Week. The “Mayor for a Day” contest encourages young people to think about public service and future community leadership.

The contest is open to any high school student living in San Luis, Arizona and the rules are simple.
1. Typed essays must be the original work of students in San Luis High School. Any high school student may submit one essay (multiple entries from one author will not be accepted).
2. Essays, no longer than one page in length, must answer the following questions:
a. Why is your community great – what makes it special?
b. What would you do to improve your city if you were mayor for a day?
Essays may deal with all types of community issues (e.g., a recycling plan, the police department, keeping neighborhoods attractive, parks and recreation, housing needs, etc.) Originality of thought and creativity will be considered.
3. The author’s name, school, teacher’s name and school’s address must appear on the back of each essay.
4. Essay entries must be submitted to the Principal’s Office at San Luis High School by 3:00 p.m. no later than October 20, 2015.

The essay winner will be announced on October 22, 2015 during Cities and Towns Week. The winning student will formally be recognized during a Regular Council Meeting scheduled for October 28, 2015 that will take place at San Luis High School at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements will be made with the teacher and parents of the winning student to attend the meeting where Mayor Sanchez will present the winner.
