San Luis, Arizona — In August 2024, the City of San Luis commenced the Merrill Avenue Improvement Project to enhance road conditions by expanding the existing road infrastructure and implementing upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
During the peak traffic season and with multiple other projects, DPE Construction completed the project on November 7, 2024, 94 days before the estimated completion date.
"This project reflects the city's ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure for our residents, businesses, and visitors," stated Armando Esparza, Director of Economic Development and Government and Foreign Affairs. "Upon completion of phase II, these improvements will not only enhance traffic flow but will also create a more accessible and sustainable transportation network for the future of San Luis," he added.
This project was funded partially through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a federal program funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is authorized under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.
The work does not stop there; the San Luis Economic Development Department is working on securing grant funding for the completion of Merrill Avenue Improvements Phase II – covering from Nancy Street to County 22nd Street. Additionally, they are working to secure funding for improvements in Rancho Los Oros in the coming years. These improvements will help access and traffic flow with the area's new commercial opportunities and hospitals.
