[ARCHIVED] Vice Mayor Matias Rosales Accepts Position As Chairman Of The YMPO Executive Board

San Luis, Arizona – Vice Mayor Matias Rosales accepted the position of Chairman for the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization (YMPO), during the February 25th, 2021 YMPO Executive Board Meeting. Vice Mayor Rosales rotated from YMPO Vice-Chair to the Chairman position replacing Vice Mayor Martha Garcia, from the City of Somerton, Arizona. 

The Executive Board acts as a policy body coordinating and directing transportation planning, with implementation of related activities within the overall regional planning process. There are ten (10) elected or appointed officials with three (3) from the City of Yuma, two (2) from the Yuma County, one (1) from each of the following including the City of San Luis, City of Somerton, the Town of Wellton, the Cocopah Indian Tribe. The State Transportation Board (STB) Member for District 6 is also an official member of the YMPO Executive Board.

According to the YMPO’s bylaws, elected officers shall serve on an annual rotation basis. 

“To have been given the opportunity to serve as Chairman for the Executive Board of the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization is a big responsibility, one that I take very seriously and will with great honor represent the City of San Luis,” stated Vice Mayor Matias Rosales. 

“Congratulations to Vice Mayor Rosales on his new role as Chairman of the YMPO,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “His commitment to our region and communities will be reflected in the good work he will do,” he added.
