africa-pr-web

San Luis, Arizona – Council Member Africa Luna-Carrasco is one of the nine (9) board members appointed to serve on the Colorado River Citizens Forum (CRCF), by Commissioner Jayne Harkins of the United States Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC).

Council Member Luna-Carrasco attended orientation for new board members this past Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Board members serve a two (2) year term.

The USIBWC established the CRCF in 2003 to facilitate the exchange of information between the USIBWC and members of the public about Commission activities in Yuma County, Arizona, and Imperial County, California. The CRCF is designed to bring together community members, to allow for an early and continued two-way flow of information between USIBWC and the general public, environmentalists, irrigation districts, municipalities, and others.

The Commission is responsible for applying the boundary and water treaties between the United States and Mexico and settling differences that may derive during application of the treaties. Commission projects and activities include maintenance of the boundary monuments, demarcation of the international boundary at the ports of entry, delivery of Colorado River water to Mexico in conformance with the 1944 Water Treaty, water quality monitoring, flood control, and sanitation, among other responsibilities.

The board will generally conduct three (3) regular public meetings per year. Virtual meetings will be held until further notice.

“It is an honor to be appointed to serve on the Colorado River Citizens Forum, I assume my new responsibilities with enthusiasm and gratitude,” stated Council Member Luna-Carrasco.

“I would like to congratulate Council Member Africa-Luna Carrasco on her appointment to the Colorado River Citizens Forum,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “She will be an asset,” he added.
