[ARCHIVED] Piana Group to Bring Employment Opportunity to the City of San Luis

San Luis, Arizona — A global company that manufactures non-woven goods will be leasing a production facility in San Luis, Arizona bringing 30 full-time jobs to the region.

The Piana Group., an Italian family-owned textile company, will invest $4 million in equipment and improvements to be made to the building currently known as Meadowcraft located at 2801 N. Main Street in San Luis, Arizona.

The facility is expected to be at full operation in February of 2019.

The company will lease 125,000 square feet of the Meadowcraft building for production, warehousing, and administrative support. The 600,000 square feet complex will provide an opportunity for the Piana Group to expand in the future and create additional jobs.

To support the project, the City of San Luis has been working with the Piana Group in providing an economic development incentive tied to job creation. The incentive policy is being reviewed by the Mayor and City Council and hope to come to an agreement soon that would support this type of companies in locating to San Luis. “Piana Non-Wovens will be bringing several permanent jobs with benefits to our community, and have already started taking applications at Arizona@Work, PPEP, and Goodwill,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “This is only the beginning of new job creations in San Luis; there will be more in the future,” he added.

The City of San Luis worked with its economic development partners, Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation in recruiting of the company. “We are very excited to welcome Piana Non-Wovens to our community. It is an honor to work with a company that has been in business for 482 years. Piana's longevity is a testament to their high standard of artistry and their ability to continuously innovate product lines. The Mayor, City Council, and City of San Luis staff have done a phenomenal job of highlighting our region's business-friendly environment. San Luis is a perfect location for manufacturers in search of a highly productive workforce with proximity to California and Mexican markets”, said Julie Engel, President, and CEO for Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation. Both entities continue to pursue other companies in locating to our region to support job creation and economic growth.

Andrea Piana, owner, and CEO of the Piana Group declares, “We are very honored and excited to be a part of the family of the City of San Luis. The City of San Luis, the Mayor, City Council, the Economic Development Team and their partners from the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation have been remarkably professional and kind. It is our intention and purpose to contribute to this fantastic community”.
