The award is given to an outstanding government lawyer who provides “exemplary services.” Mr. Gimbut is only the third municipal attorney to receive this award.

This award is intended to recognize retired or retiring public attorneys who have had distinguished careers as public attorneys, have made many significant contributions to public service and are recognized as models of the dedication and commitment of public attorneys. All retired or retiring public attorneys are eligible to receive this award, including elected public officials. A public attorney is a licensed attorney who: (1) works for a government agency (federal, state or local) or nonprofit legal aid office; or (2) provides legal services to a government agency or agencies where the legal services provided amount to at least 50% of the attorney’s legal practice.

Gimbut began his career in local government in 1973. He joined the City of San Luis Attorney’s Office 17 years ago. Mr. Gimbut currently serves on the Executive Board of the Public Lawyers Section of the Arizona State Bar and has served on the continuing Legal Education Board of Directors. He is also a member and past President of the Arizona City Attorneys Association, and a member of the International Municipal Lawyers Association were is currently serves as the Co-Chair.

“We are not surprised that Mr. Gimbut was selected to receive the Public Lawyer Career Achievement Award because we have seen his dedication and work throughout the years,” said City Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “I commend Mr. Gimbut for his dedication to the City of San Luis.”
