San Luis, Arizona – City leaders and fire department personnel commemorated the opening of the City of San Luis Fire Station No. 2 at 3925 E. County 24th Street. Its brand new 2,401 square-foot building will improve the fire protection and response time of thousands of residents in the rapidly developing area.
Construction of Fire Station No. 2 commenced in September 2022. The project progressed throughout the year and was completed in November 2023 for $1.4 million. Fire Station 2 is dedicated to fallen firefighter Robert Fernandez, houses up to seven firefighters and is equipped with one fire truck, a rescue truck, and an ambulance.
“We are so excited to see the San Luis Fire Department in East San Luis," stated Mayor Nieves Riedel. “Their presence has already had a major impact on the response times, and our residents are now seeing our team respond within three to five minutes,” she continued. “This is only the start of the great things coming to East San Luis,” she concluded.
“As Fire Chief and as a member of the San Luis Fire Department for over 20 years, there is no greater priority than being there to help and render aid to our community in their time of need,” stated Fire Chief Angel Ramirez. “I am more than ecstatic to see our department providing faster aid to our community and living up to the legacy Robert left behind,” he added.
Fire Station 2 is dedicated to Robert Fernandez, a San Luis Fire Department member who paid the ultimate sacrifice when he succumbed to his injuries obtained in the life of duty serving the San Luis community.
