San Luis, Arizona —Earlier this week, City of San Luis officials and local stakeholders gathered for the San Luis I Community Representative Committee meeting, where it was announced the work for San Luis Port of Entry I would begin in the next few weeks.

The San Luis Port of Entry I Modification Project is set to begin in May of 2023 and will be completed in two different phases.

  • Phase I will focus on the vehicular portion of the port and will be doubling the number of vehicle processing lanes to 16. This portion of the project is estimated to be completed in Fall 2025.
  • Phase II will add four additional pedestrian processing lanes and amplify the current building. Phase II is estimated to be completed in the Fall of 2028.

This project will not only improve vehicular and pedestrian circulation but will also reduce border crossing wait time.

“This $298 million project is more than just construction; This project will truly show the work that can be accomplished when multiple government agencies work together,” says Mayor Nieves Riedel. “The San Luis I Port of Entry processes over 3 million personal vehicles and over 2.5 million pedestrians a year; we want to ensure our Port remains fully operational throughout the construction. Most importantly, we want to ensure border wait times are not impacted,” she added. “Please join us on June 28th for the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony”, she concluded.
