San Luis, Arizona – For the entirety of October, San Luis City Hall and the San Luis Police Department will be illuminated pink and purple in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
This October, the City of San Luis is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer for women in the United States and remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women.
October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men, will experience severe physical and emotional violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines nationwide receive over 19,000 calls. The City of San Luis is proud to take a stand against domestic violence and bring awareness to this social issue.
“We are proud to uphold our support to bringing awareness to breast cancer and help put an end to domestic violence,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “The City of San Luis will continue to work with local organizations and community members to assure everyone there is help and support for anyone who needs it,” he concluded.
On Friday, October 1st, 2021, at 8:00 a.m., the South Yuma County Domestic Violence Coalition and Proverbs 31 Home will have their Annual 1 Mile Walk Against Domestic Violence. The walk will begin at the roundabout located on Main Street and Urtuzuastegui Street and will end at the San Luis Gym, inside Joe Orduño Park.
