San Luis, Arizona — The City of San Luis is collaborating with Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG) for the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).

The VITA Program was designed to support free tax preparation service for the underserved through various partner organizations, such as WACOG. These services helps low-to-moderate income individuals, people with disabilities, elderly, and those with limited English, who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. The VITA program not only assists with tax preparation but ensures that families and individuals receive all tax credits in which they qualify.

To qualify for the program, the individual must have an income of less than $57,000.00. Individuals are also asked for, their social security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, a photo identification card, a copy of last years filed tax return, as well as  a letter issued by the Internal Revenue Service for each of the people listed on the refund. In addition to any information regarding other types of income received, documents showing tax withheld and deductions and credits such as health insurance.

This year the VITA Program will be operating in a Document Drop-Off Service format. There will be no in-person appointments due to Covid-19. The Document Drop-Off Service will be Thursdays 5p.m. to 7p.m. and Saturdays 9a.m. to 12p.m. at 788 E. B Street, San Luis, Arizona. VITA Program Volunteers are ready to help, for more information please call (928) 341-8583 Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30a.m. to 2p.m.

“I would like to invite our community to utilize the VITA Program Services, our Senior Center staff and volunteers have worked very hard to become IRS certified tax preparers to give the best service possible,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “Thank you volunteers!,” he concluded.
