San Luis, Arizona – The City of San Luis would like to report that although 2020 was undeniably a very challenging year, the upward trend for new residential permits remained a constant this past year.

While having to update and change procedures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the city’s Planning and Zoning Department revealed a big and positive surprise, residential permits increased 26% in 2020.

Since 2016 new residential permits have been increasing at a steady pace. The 427 new homes in 2020 is an increase over the 339 new homes in 2019, these numbers reflect there was no slowdown for the City of San Luis during the last 24 months in residential growth.

“To learn that our new residential permits continued to increase this past year was definitely great news,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “The pandemic created a need to adopt new ways of operating, for some of us this meant familiarizing ourselves with new technologies. I feel hopeful that this upward trend will continue in 2021,” he concluded.

City Administrator Tadeo A. De La Hoya, thanked the Planning & Zoning Department for keeping up with growth and processing the number of permits during the pandemic. Also, the Police Department for keeping San Luis a safe community that attracts new residents, and the development community for investing in this community.
