San Luis, Arizona – Since October 1st, 2019, San Luis City Hall and the San Luis Police Department have been illuminated pink and purple respectively to bring awareness to breast cancer and domestic violence.

This October, the City of San Luis is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer for women in the United States and remains the second leading cause of cancer related deaths among women.

October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in four women and one in seven men will experience severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.  With over 21,000 calls to the National Domestic Violence hotlines reported, the City of San Luis is proud to take a stand to put an end to domestic violence.

“We proudly declare our commitment to breast cancer awareness and put an end to domestic violence,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez adding that the City of San Luis will continue to work with organizations and community members to assure everyone has the help and support needed.
