San Luis, Arizona — Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03) will hold a press conference in the city of San Luis, Arizona this Wednesday, March 28th at 4 p.m. to announce a new farm worker bill which would grant overtime pay. The press conference will be held at the César Chávez Cultural Center, located at 1015 N. Main St in San Luis. Members of the media and the community are invited and encourage ed to attend.

Currently, farm workers outside California still do not receive overtime pay. The proposed legislation would remedy the discriminatory denial of overtime pay and the minimum wage to farmworkers under the FLSA. The legislation would eliminate existing exemptions for agricultural employers from overtime. The legislation would also eliminate most of the remaining exemptions to the minimum wage for agricultural employers; however, the family farm exemption would continue.

“Glad to welcome Congressman Grijalva back to the city of San Luis. I’m excited to hear about the new farm worker legislation and how it will benefit our community,” said Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “City Council is always willing to work together to improve the quality of life for our residents,” he added.
