[ARCHIVED] GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR SAN LUIS PORT OF ENTRY I PEDESTRIAN ANNEXATION BUILDING

POE I Annexation

San Luis, Arizona — On November 7, 2017, the City of San Luis participated in a series of meeting to lobby for positive changes in the City’s Ports of Entry and concluded with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The City of San Luis Mayor Sanchez and City Council along with Governor Doug Ducey, Ms. Martha Garcia from Congressman Grijalva’s Office, Mayor Reina from the City of San Luis Rio Colorado and Port Director John Schwamm participated in the Groundbreaking Ceremony for San Luis I Pedestrian Port of Entry Annexation.

Before the groundbreaking ceremony, representatives from several offices gathered at City Hall for a briefing from the General Services Administration on the San Luis I Modernization project where Mayor Sanchez along with Mayor Reina proposed a more direct route for southbound traffic.

Following the briefing, Mayor Sanchez gathered with the Arizona Department of Transportation Director John Halikowski and Governor Ducey at Port of Entry II where they were able to discuss the improvements made to expedite truck safety inspections and the upcoming necessities and expansion of Port of Entry II.

Subsequently, local officials gathered at Port of Entry I for its pedestrian annexation ceremony. Where guests were able to hear remarks from Governor Ducey, Mayor Sanchez, Mayor Reina, Ms. Martha Garcia, and Mr. Schwamm.

“I am honored to have been a part of the Port of Entry Pedestrian Annexation groundbreaking earlier today. It is great to see that there are several different entities noticing the impact and the importance that is needed to develop and modernize our Ports of Entry” stated Mayor Sanchez.  He added that he is excited to see the new lanes, improved safety and eco-friendly facilities that will be incorporated into the building.
