San Luis, Arizona — Tadeo A. De La Hoya, City of San Luis City Manager and Gadsden Elementary School Board Member, joined the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, the nation’s preeminent Latino leadership organization, and more than 50 other policymakers from across the country for a Board of Directors Meeting and Census Advocacy Day in Washington D.C., from March 6-8, 2017.

City Manager Tadeo A. De La Hoya alongside NALEO Board of Directors members met with legislators and staff such as Arizona Senator John McCain, Arizona Senator Jeff Flake, United States House of Representative Tom O’Halleran from Arizona 1st Congressional District, and United States House of Representative Trent Franks from Arizona’s 8th Congressional District.

During the Board Meeting and Census 2020 Advocacy Day, Tadeo A. De La Hoya had the opportunity to review the proposed changes and new approaches for the 2020 Census, along with the proposed timeline and potential implications that could include an internet response option.

“It is important for me to advocate that every person living in San Luis is counted in the 2020 Census” stated Tadeo A. De La Hoya. “As funding for educational programs, healthcare and law enforcement are derived from the total count” he added.

Mr. Tadeo A. De La Hoya and the cohort of policymakers that participated in the meeting will be conducting ongoing outreach and dialogue with stakeholders, communities, and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) about plans, research, and results until the 2020 Census takes in April of 2020.
