Unveiling of New Tourist Letters Celebrates Community, Culture, and Identity

City of San Luis Posted on May 02, 2025

San Luis, Arizona—The Cesar Chavez Cultural Center unveiled its brand-new tourist letters. This vibrant installation highlights the community's rich cultural heritage and marks a new chapter in the center's ongoing mission to inspire pride, connection, and celebration. The official unveiling ceremony occurred during this year’s Art en la Calle event at the center, located at 1015 N. Main Street.

Standing tall and boldly colorful, the touristic letters spell out San Luis, AZ, and are designed with intricate artwork that reflects the creativity and culture of our vibrant city. The letters highlight our rich agriculture, the historical UFW movement, our border community, and the voices that have shaped our community.

“We wanted to create something more than just a photo opportunity,” stated the Director of Parks and Recreation, Angelica Roldan. “These letters are a celebration of identity, a statement of pride, and an invitation for everyone—residents and visitors alike—to learn, reflect, and engage,” she added.

This project is a collaboration between two talented local artists, a true fusion of creative visions. Designed and initially painted by Sheccid Ortiz and further detailed and finished by Marcia Hernandez, the work beautifully reflects their shared passion and unique artistic styles. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, snap a photo, and share their experience.
